In almost perfect conditions for rugby. Holmes Chapel RUFC lined up against Crewe and Nantwich RUFC in what is always a tough fixture.
playing out of position, Mark McEneaney got chapel off to the perfect start when he broke through in the early minutes to give the home side the lead. Unfortunately Russell Sandbach was unable to add the extras. The visitors then fought back and the looked to run the ball, chapel's defence held strong on this occassion and they were able to clear their lines.
A further try for the home side then followed when Angus Morrison went over after an impressive run. It was a tough battle up front, Jim Bowbeer was everywhere and doing his upmost to keep C&N at bay. However a fine run from the visitors fly half ensured the gap was closed to 3 points at the break
Half Time HC 10 C&N 7
The second half was much the same as the first with no side making any real gains as the defensive effort from both teams remained outstanding. Chapel did finally break through after some sustained pressure to put them 2 scores ahead. If they thought that was game over, they had another think coming. C&N came straight back at chapel for another score of their own, leaving the game finally balanced at 15-12.
Chapel re-grouped and held on for the victory. They will be looking to improve significantly for next week's fixture as they entertain Manchester at home, 3pm kick off.
Players are reminded that on Wednesday 16th April there will be an evening game away at Eagle.
