Trentham were the visitors to Station Road last Saturday for Holmes Chapel 1st XV's 3rd game of the new season. The Staffordshire outfit were relegated last season and although the game was very close in terms of possession and territory, the visitors gave Chapel a lesson in taking opportunities to run out clear winners. However, following a tough start to the season in terms of availability Chapel will be delighted with both the turnout and performance as they made Trentham work hard for the victory, particularly in the second half.
A try from Stewart Butters, a very rare double from Jon Griffin, plus a Butters conversion made up the Chapel scoring for the day.
Captain Mike Cottam said after the match: "it's been a difficult start but we are improving, and with more players to come back I am looking forward to a few selection headaches of the positive kind!". Cottam also paid tribute to Tom Chambers and David Price who stepped up into the front row to help the Chapel cause.
Try scorers: Stewart Butters; Jon Griffin (2)
