Holmes Chapel 1st XV suffered another defeat at the weekend, this time against a Capenhurst side who are looking much improved from previous seasons and should be a real threat for promotion this year. Chapel started badly, conceding an early try, but then went on to play some good rugby in the first half. Unfortunately they couldn’t put any points on the board and Capenhurst scored again on the stroke of half time after working their way upfield, assisted by far too many penalties from the visitors. Chapel struggled to find any rhythm in the second half and the hosts added 2 further tries to seal a deserved win. Although disappointed with the result, coach Rick Clark was pleased with the way his young back-line performed saying “the young lads played well and the half-back partnership looks promising”.
