Win helped by numerous opposition yellow cards

The boys in Blue had a fantastic opportunity to keep their winning streak going and start to put some pressure on the teams above. Although a clean, clinical performance is what was required, what followed was turned out to be one of the stranger and more frustrating games that a lot of the players had ever played in.
Holmes Chapel got off to an unconvincing start, however the first two times that they entered the 22 Senior pro Mark McEnaney managed to flop over the line making a total of 2 metres in both carries, but more importantly 14 points as both were converted by Andy Davies.
Lymm replied almost instantly when a well-executed cross-field kick bounced nicely into the winger’s hands and they slid over in the corner. They nailed the conversion to make the score 7-14. Although struggling to put regular phases together, Chapel were able to reply with Dom Moss bagging a try following some nice pick and goes 7-19.
Lymm were then able to capitalise on Chapel’s below par performance by stringing two tries together, one another well executed cross-field kick and the other crashing the ball up through the middle, these were both converted to take the lead 21-19. What followed was a bizarre passage of play where 2 Lymm players were sin binned for mouthing off to the referee. The resulting scrum led to Chapel utilising the overlap and putting Jack Cottam in for his first try of the season, Andy Davies converted to make the score 21-26.
Following another yellow card to Lymm, amazingly with just 12 men they were able to score a break away try and converted to retake the lead at 28-26. The Chapel boys were visibly frustrated as they struggled to bring any structure to their game. A 4th yellow card for Lymm led to mass confusion as, like a toilet seat on the day after tour, the lads kept coming off and on. A fantastic break and pace from Luke Cheetham on the left brought back the lead and another try to prolific Tom Chambers (who is now battling with Luke Cheetham for top try scorer) gave Chapel some breathing space, the score 28-38.
A penalty try progressed the score and the game got stranger when a further 2 yellow cards landed for Lymm, there were too many to remember what for but my money is on arguing with the referee.
For the last 15 minutes of play Chapel were excellent, thanks to the contribution from the players of the bench Ed Chappell, Harry Snape and Kieron Davies. This was rewarded when David Steer was able to crash over the line following a pop from Kieron at 10. Kieron then topped off his impactful performance with a luscious cross-field kick which fell straight into the hands of Jack Cottam at full tilt who was able to finish off a nice last 15 minutes. Final score 28-57
A frustrating game but man of the match is shared between all three substitutes, Ed Chappell, Harry Snape, Kieron Davies for having an excellent impact.
