Man of the Match performance by Luke Blagborough

This Saturday chapel welcomed Winnington park to station road. Both teams sat in a similar position in the table and had similar results so far.
The game started a very even affair with both teams carrying hard. A huge hit by centre Luke Blagborough raised the aggression levels and both teams were keen to get the first points on the board. A penalty underneath the posts gave Winnington the chance to do that. The away side took the chance and took the lead. This kicked Chapel into gear and their attacking play began to look more threatening. A disallowed Michael Lightfoot try was swiftly followed by a dropped ball 5 metres out, both very good chances for the lads in blue and gold to get back into the game. David Steer soon got points on the board for chapel after powering over from 5 yards out. A swift reply from Winnington Park off a strong lineout drive frustrated the home side after a period of attacking pressure a well worked scrum move by back rowers Conor Gavin and Dom Moss saw the ball distributed to Luke Blagborough via influential scrum half Andrew Davies. The centre was then able to power over down the blind side for the second try of the game. Another disallowed try from big 2nd row Mark McEnaney meant Winnington were in the lead at the break.
Stand in coach Tom Chambers gave out the orders at half time and the boys were desperate for the win.
Prop Rob Moore was having an excellent game and was making yards with every carry, a 30-yard break from him put the defence on the back foot and allowed some momentum in attack. Michael Lightfoot fed flanker Dave Steer who powered over the line but was hit by a high tackle. A penalty try was awarded , and Chapel regained the lead. History was to repeat itself five minutes later as chapel prop Ed Chappell was sin binned for the same offence. The same punishment of a penalty try was issued and the game sat at 21-25 to the away side. With just five minutes to go chapel were keen to grind out a result. The boys thought they had won it when captain Dom Moss rolled over from 2 yards out. The 4th try of the game was disallowed for the home side and it looked as if it wasn't going to be their day. A couple of big hits from centre Joe Baskerville and winger Mark Stuart kept Winnington pressed into their half. With 2 minutes to go a penalty was awarded 10 meters out. Macca picked and went, finishing superbly in the corner. With the conversion missed the score was 26-25 with a minute left. Neil Almond was the calmest man on the pitch off the restart and caught safely before recycling the ball for the team in blue and gold. The home side could retain possession and the win was theirs.
A fantastic effort from all the boys who ground out a well-deserved win. Man of the Match went to Luke Blagborough who was unstoppable in the midfield.
