Minor Women's Whiplash for Star Wing Foward

Chapel played Bowdon 2’s in the league last week. Off the back of two defeats in a row the lads needed to bounce back with a win.
Unfortunately, the lads were greeted with unwelcoming conditions as the rain continued to pour down. As Jason Manford once said the weather in the Northwest can be categorised similar to that of Muslims – it is either Sunni or it is Shia-t. This day was definitely the latter.
But, the lads cannot blame the weather too much as it is the same for both sides. It was going to be a tough test regardless.
The match got underway and Chapel showed their strength in the initial scrums and lineouts. Their intense work in the rucks also meant that Tom Chambers was able to break through the gate pick up the ball and run it all the way to the oppositions try line for the first score. This was then comfortably converted by Andy Davies. (0-7).
Unfortunately, given their dominance in the scrum and lineouts Chapel got a little too comfortable – taking their foot off the gas.
Through the rest of the game Chapel struggled to string any decent play together. Things began to slip in their lineouts and scrums too. There was some good work in the mauling from Chapel but this was then turned over by Bowdon and kicked back every time. Making for a frustrating afternoon for the forwards.
Bowdon began to capitalise on Chapel’s mistakes and quite literally run away with the game. Score after score game through meaning that in the end Chapel lost the game 42-7 with no answer.
Towards the end of the game Tom Chambers flew out of the line for a big hit but ended up hurting himself. Knocking himself unconscious – he was rushed to A & E – where they officially diagnosed him with ‘Minor Women’s Whiplash.’
All the lads wish Tom a speedy recovery.
Holmes Chapel hope to turn their season around this week with a massive home game against Winnington Park 2s. This is a massive 6 pointer with both teams showing similar form. As a club we welcome anyone who wishes to come down and support us. The boys are hoping this loss was the kick up the back side they needed to turn their season around.
