2 tries for home debutant

Chapel welcomed Sefton Park to Station Road for the first game of the season. All the lads seemed keen to impress from the get go. A couple of mediocre performances had been laid down previous to the match – but this was the one that mattered – this was the first game of the season - this is where you set your mark.
Chapel marched out of the changing rooms focussed and ready This soon showed as straight from the kick the ball was comfortably caught by Chapel’s steady handed prop. The ball was then fired through the phases before eventually hitting Jack Cottam in full flight. Jack carried the ball superbly over the line. This well executed attack meant it took all of 39 seconds for Chapel to get their first try of the season.
Following on from this Chapel continued to pile on the pressure which led to a debut try from the quickest man on the planet Joash Riley. He showed class dodging a few burly Sefton players before scoring in the corner. Andy Davies adding the extras with the conversion – could to see him back in a shirt rather than being a perpetual Welsh tourist.
Tom Chambers couldn’t let all the backs have all the fun and continued the tradition of last season by getting the first forward try of the season. Again this was expertly converted by Andy.
Fat Chris Pratt’s brother Joe Baskerville then also added to the party – showing his brother that he is not the only one who can have a fruitful partnership with Jim Moss.
Sefton did manage to hit back shortly before the break – one of the big lads breaking through the tackles in the midfield. Some stern, effective words from Dom Moss put the boys back on track. Everything had been solid up until now so time to pick up where we left off.
After the break Chapel continued to pile on the pressure. The four man line out proved to be very effective with the two “big fat f**ing ball carriers” in the midfield crashing through or tying the defence up every time. Dom has made sure the lads manage to use all of their “assets” to the best of their ability or rather he has made sure we don’t feel guilty about letting loose over the summer. It’s as if he nose how to motivate us!
Joash managed to get his second try of the day and also manage to fluff one up. We could only assume that he knew 3 tries means you buy a jug. But, not to worry – “jug-avoidance” is also punishable with buying a jug.
A special mention also to Matthew Partington – our youngest, newest player and the prodigy of club legend (loose term) Andy Partington – who in his first game, with his first touch scored his first try – which was met with more applause than all on Andy’s tries put together. Great to seeing Matty getting his first try to the club.
Dom Moss has the final say adding to the tries. Stu Butters adding the extras for the tries second half.
It was a great start to the campaign for Chapel – everything came together – all those solid sessions over the summer have proved to be effective - on to the next one for the boys in blue.
Chapel would like to thank Sefton for an enjoyable match played in the right spirit – we look forward to seeing you at your place.
