Close run thing on Ladies' Day

A fair weather Ladies' day saw the Holmes Chapel boys taking on bottom of the league New Brighton, but Chapel knew that New Brighton would see this as the perfect opportunity to capitalise and put one over on the league leaders.

Chapel started out well in the first ten minutes but failed to capitalise having most of the possession in New Brighton’s 22. However some sloppy play and spilled balls saw New Brighton crash over the line twice and score themselves a penalty. Chapel responded with a series of crash balls, resulting in a try for Mark McEnaney to make it 17-7 before the half.

Second half kicked off and some fresh legs in the side saw Chapel score three tries in quick succession, two for Joe Maddock and one for prop Ed Chappell. Chapel had gained the confidence back but a lapse in concentration saw New Brighton score on the wing, bringing the score to 26-22.

The boys were determined to seal this win, and with some good simple rugby saw themselves crash within 5 metres of New Brighton's try line. Tom Chambers picked the ball from here to score. New Brighton responded once more but the damage was done, the game ended 31-29 and Chapel had come out victorious.

A close fought game that should’ve been killed off earlier, but Skipper Dom Moss was happy just to come out with the win.
